Obama: No Timetable for Iraqi Visit
"U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months," Maliki told the German news weekly Der Spiegel, referring to the plan the Democratic hopeful outlined last week to bring U.S. troops home over a 16-month period starting next year. "That, we think, would be the right time frame for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes," Maliki said.
Obama, who was in Afghanistan on Saturday, has said he will also visit Iraq, but the precise timing of the trip has been kept under wraps for security reasons.
Now, maybe I’m mistaken here, but isn’t the whole idea of not setting a timetable for troop withdrawal intended to protect not only American troops but Iraqi security forces once we leave?
The problem has never been to create the timeline, or time horizon, but to announce it to the entire world! Including al-Qaeda who might decide to lay low until the withdrawal is complete before they strike. Not announcing a timetable has never meant permanent occupation by American forces, except in Obamaland.
Apparently, Barack Obama has no problem keeping his own schedule under wraps for security reasons. Sadly, he doesn’t recognize the same security precautions might be needed to keep the U.S. and Iraqi troops safe as well…
What a hypocrite!

He’s going to visit our ground troops on a fact find, even though his mind is already made up. It’s been said: “Don’t confuse him with the facts.” Let’s hope our troops DO just that!
