As a soon-to-be former member of the Democratic Party (meaning: when Howard Dean steals the nomination for Barack Obama by disenfranchising voters in Michigan and Florida… I’m out!), I’m trying to get used to the idea of defending John McCain. This is my first attempt. It goes against my 20 years of voting for the Democratic nominee, but considering the insidious campaign of the most un-American, lying, corrupt, hateful, polarizing, demeaning, race-baiting con with the thinnest resume in Presidential history……. it isn’t all that difficult.

Here is an exerpt of Barack Obama hitting McCain from a rally in South Dakota. Some liberal pundits including Michael Tomasky from The Guardian are declaring a round one victory for Obama. It’s true Obama has a great gift for speaking, but when you analyze the content of his speeches minus the added flair of pompous grandstanding, Obama’s words are just as you might expect them to be: EMPTY

"George Bush and John McCain have a lot to answer for…"
Nice attempt to lump the two together as if they were on the same ticket. The parallel is just as absurd as comparing you with JFK. In truth, McCain is more like Nixon (pre-Watergate) and you are clearly Jimmy Carter.

"They’ve gotta explain why we are now entering our sixth year of war in Iraq…"
Simple. Rumsfeld. Totally incompetent. McCain was against this inept approach from the start.

"We were supposed to be going over there for weapons of mass destruction that we never found…"
True. But remember Colin Powell’s speech to the U.N.? Very persuasive. The evidence he presented suggests that either the WMDs were there at one time or the Bush administration fabricated the greatest lie in American history. Either way, John McCain’s hands are clean.

"We were told that it was gonna last a few months and cost a few billion dollars we have now spent over 600 billion dollars, thousands of lives lost…"
Again, Rumsfeld.

"and we have not been made more safe."
Are you kidding? Regardless of what you think of the Bush administration, this country has not been attacked since September 11, 2001.

"They’re gonna have to explain the fact that Osama bin Laden is still at large and is sending out video tapes with impunity…"
Oooooooooh. Those are the worst kind. The ones with impunity. Still, bin Laden can’t seem to get the airplay Jeremiah Wright does everytime he opens his big mouth.

"They need to answer for the fact that Al-Qaeda’s leadership is stronger than ever because we took our eye off the ball in Afghanistan."
Stronger than ever? Exaggerating a bit don’t you think? Again, the United States has not been attacked since September 11, 2001.

"They’ve got to answer for the fact that Iran is the greatest strategic beneficiary of our invasion in Iraq. It made Iran stronger, George Bush’s policies."
Iran is not stronger as long as U.S. troops remain in the region. Iran will be stronger if you become President and withdraw all troops by the end of next year.

"They’re gonna have to explain why Hamas now controls Gaza, Hamas that was strengthened because the United States insisted that we should have democratic elections in the Palestinian Authority."
WTF? So democracy is bad? Why, because voters didn’t pick the candidate you want? That sounds familiar. (This little blunder seems to have gone unnoticed by the mainstream media)

"They’re gonna have to explain why it is that Iran is able to fund Hezbollah and poses the greatest threat to America and Israel and the Middle East in a generation."
Well, maybe you should go have a talk with them. Israel tried to attack and weaken Hezbollah two years ago after Israeli soldiers were kidnapped, but the U.N. went ballistic and shut down the whole operation. Maybe you should go have a talk with the U.N. as well, Sweetie.
